Oops, sorry for the triplicate comment. Akismet seems to have blacklisted me and I was trying to get through by changing email .. website ..etc, but these are really redundant - you may want to delete 2 of the 3 as well as this one :-)

Thx.

Agree with almost everything, except: "Knowledge management systems, Wikis included, are meant to strip out this context." Wikis are not knowledge management systems. The key difference, IMHO, is that KM is all about capturing "knowledge" after-the-fact, and as such is doomed to fail. A wiki, when used properly becomes the primary place to conduct business, and as a by-product, it captures all the information... so, yes, it solves a KM problem, but it's really more than a KM tool.

Jevon, I agree with all but this part:
"Knowledge management systems, Wikis included, are meant to strip out this context. In turn these nuggets of golden knowledge are left cold and weak."

Actually, I would agree to this statement, sans "wikis". See, that's the whole point to me. Knowledge management systems attempt to capture "knowledge" after the fact. A wiki should not be used that way, it should become the platform we conduct our work at; thus it's primary, live, real - not some afterthought.

The by-product of the wiki solves a knowledge management problem, but it's not a knowledge management tool.
