Legal wrangle puts India’s generic drugs at risk

” Tens of thousands of people being treated for AIDS will suffer if Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis succeeds in changing India’s patent law, the humanitarian agency Medecins Sans Frontieres warned on Monday.”

Set a record, or break your neck?

“In 1968 in Mexico City, Dick Fosbury did something great. He did the high jump backwards, and confused a lot of people. They called it the “Fosbury Flop”
It took almost 10 years for the rest of the elite group of jumpers to start using the flop, by then it was too late for many of them.” - More at the FASTForward Blog

February in California

By the end of February last year I had 20,000 miles flown around the US, this year with a comparatively less glamorous life running a startup, I have approximatly 800.

So, I am going to shake a leg and head down to FASTForward’07 in San Diego where I will be blogging live and meeting up with fellow FastForward Blog bloggers and then catch a flight Friday evening to San Jose for CommunityNext on Saturday before I head back to Toronto Sunday mid-day. If you are going to be at either conference, let me know, I’d love to meet up.

Shades of Online Community

“The topic of online community has come up a lot on a recent project. I’ve heard some powerful stories about Yelp, Gay.com, Craigslist, Tripadvisor, Citysearch, Amazon… and more. It occurred to me that there is more than one way to engage with users and foster a sense of community online. Here are some ideas on the shades of community.”

4 years later: Blogging ROI

Forrester has released a blogging ROI paper,. 2 papers in fact, and only 300$ a piece.

Here is my blogging white paper:

5 Steps to finding Blog ROI

  1. Get a blog at Wordpress.com
  2. Pick your best writer, or perhaps find your favorite intern.
  3. Use the 600$ you were going to expense on this report to have him/her write 6 posts.
  4. Sit back and think about whether it was worth it or not, and think about all you learned.
  5. Bonus: Write the blog posts yourself

Enterprise 2.0: Where do I start?

You may be wondering, “who can help my company adopt some of these new ideas and technologies that we are hearing about“?

If you are involved in running any sort of moderately sized organization, you can be sure that in the next year you are going to be approached by some form of Enterprise 2.0 Consulting company or group within a large firm.

Do you need them? Do you have to wait for them to come to you, or can you start right now? There is no time to lose. I contend that you cannot wait for a hero to ride in, you must lead the way.

A secret experiment.

I.B.M. to Introduce Workers’ Networking Software - New York Times

As I predicted earlier: “Called Lotus Connections, the new software, expected later this year, will let employees set up virtual worlds in which they can meet like-minded colleagues within the company and exchange ideas with them, all in the name of improving productivity.”

Innovation Creators: How to use Blogs in the Workplace

“Are you a CEO? Do you want you people to across silos? Do you want your engineers or your designers to know exactly what the sales people are asking them? Or better yet, do you want everyone in your company to have a deep understand of what your clients actually want, need and will pay money for?” - Rod does a great job of outlining one of the key focuses of firestoker, using blogs as a space, not a destination.
